April 19th Development Update


Hello All!

Strife: The Expanse is nearing the end of development! Currently the non-VR compontents of the game are entirely finished. The gameplay is more or less balanced and fun, all that's left to do is play-test VR and smooth out the experience. Additionally I've taken a look at a few more Steam-API features like steam stats. I'll be giving you a breakdown on the current state of development here and the stats feature I've added!

Stats Page:

Using Steam-Stats I've enabled the client side viewing of many of the background stats the game tracks such as damage dealt, total healing, record healing, record kills, total kills, etc. I feel this will give a long time player something to play around with and see what they've done and how they are progressing on certain achievements. Plus the stats junky in me likes it.

Futhermore on the back-end I also am allowing steam to keep track of which units players place so I can see whats chosen most and least often normalized to points. This will allow any balance patches to be better aimed and designed than shooting in the dark.

State Of Game VR:

Oculus VR is effectively done. I would like to add a toggle to change the HUD from being stuck to your face or not as some players seem to prefer the stationary wall type UI. Furthermore in our playtests we've experienced a few crashes from high-cpu usage. Currently I believe I've fixed it but I have only tested it in an offline environment. Depending on the severity of this crash I may need to delay the release until it is fixed. As of right now I expect to release in the latter half of May, however I don't want to set anything in stone yet.

Please keep hyped and patient, the game is still being worked on and still going along smoothly. I cannot wait to put it into public release. Expect more news on release info soon!
